  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI): Feasibility Studies to Build Collaborative Partnerships in Cancer Research (P20 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Exploratory Grant. Funds the development of partnerships between institutions serving underserved health disparity populations and underrepresented students.

  • HHS/Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA): 340B Drug Pricing Program. Funds the purchase of prescription and non-prescription medications at a reduced cost for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) and FQHC Look-Alikes, among others.

  • HHS/NIH, in partnership with the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR) and the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH): Analytical and/or Clinical Validation of a Candidate Biomarker for Pain (R61/R33 Clinical Trial Optional) Exploratory/Developmental Phased Award. The purpose of this FOA is to promote the validation of strong candidate biomarkers and endpoints for pain that can be used to facilitate the development of non-opioid pain therapeutics.

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), in partnership with the OBSSR and the Tribal Health Research Office (THRO): Responding to Opioid Use Disorders in Tribal Communities in the Context of SAMHSA and CDC Funding (R61/R33 Clinical Trials Optional) Exploratory/Developmental Phased Award.

  • US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS): FY2019 Farm to School Grants. These grants aim to increase healthy local and culturally appropriate food and food nutrition education within schools. FNS seeks to increase applications from Indian Tribal Organizations.

  • National Rural Health Resource Center: Small Rural Hospital Transition Project Technical Assistance. Provides technical assistance to small hospitals in rural areas to help prepare and assist them in transitioning to value-based care and Alternative Payment Models.

  • Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute: Research Grants for Addressing Disparities, Assessment of Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment Options, Communication and Dissemination Research, and Improving Healthcare Systems.

Scholarships / Fellowships

  • American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)/Conquer Cancer Foundation: The Medical Student Rotation (MSR) Award and the Resident Travel Award (RTA). The MSR provides financial support for medical students from underrepresented populations to complete a clinical or clinical research oncology rotation. The RTA provides financial support for residents from underrepresented populations in medicine to attend the 2019 ASCO Annual Scientific Meeting.

National Health Observances - National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day

  • HHSThe Latino Commission on AIDS, the Hispanic Federation and other organizations recognize October 15 as National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) with the theme "Ending HIV is Everyone's Job." For further information, resources and social media messaging please visit NLAAD and HIV.gov.

    The Latino Commission on AIDS will be hosting a kick-off to NLAAD TODAY, October 10, 11:00 am ET on the steps of the New York City Hall in New York, NY. For further information, please contact Luis Mares.

    As part of its Partnerships for Care (P4C) project, HRSA has created a toolkit, Integrating HIV Care, Treatment & Prevention Services into Primary Care, designed to support health centers and other safety net providers working to integrate HIV services into their primary care services. 

Clinical Trials

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK): Observational study. Pathogenesis of Glomerulosclerosis. NIH researchers seek volunteers age 4 years old or older for a study of sclerosing glomerular and tubulointerstitial kidney diseases, including but not limited to variants of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology. Facilitating Patient Understanding of Discharge Instructions: Workshop Summary is a report from the Institute of Medicine's Roundtable on Health Literacy, which describes discussions and presentations that occurred during the workshop. The roundtable considered issues related to creating more useful discharge instructions, studies that examine the amount of accurate information patients retain from these types of interactions, and ways instructions can be improved.
