  • Seattle Indian Health Board/Urban Indian Health Institute: 2018-2019 Building Resilience and Action to Nurture Community Health (BRANCH) Community Grants Program. Supports initiatives that encourage the use of AI/AN traditional, cultural and regional knowledge in developing, implementing, and/or supporting obesity education, prevention, and management initiatives among urban Indian communities.

  • American Society of Clinical Oncology/Conquer Cancer Foundation: Career Development Award. This research program provides funding to clinical investigators who have received their initial faculty appointment to establish an independent clinical cancer research program.

  • New York State Health Foundation: Sponsoring Conference Participation in Support of Healthy Communities, Consumer Empowerment, and Veterans' Health Program. Supports attendance and presentations by community-based organizations, health departments, and other low-resource organizations at local, state and national conferences related to building healthy communities, empowering healthcare consumers, and veterans' health.

  • HHS/NIH: Lasker Clinical Research Scholars Program. This program provides NIH funding for clinical research for up to 10 years, and supports clinical researchers in the early stages of their careers to promote their development to fully independent positions.

  • HHS/OMH, Office of Minority Health Resource Center (OMHRC)Tribal Vision, Design and Capacity Technical Grant Writing Workshops. This series of 2-day trainings will provide American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) professionals with strategies to make grant proposals more competitive and is designed specifically for tribes and tribal organizations. Trainings will be held in the following locations:
    August 23-24 in Atmore, AL | September 12-13 in Denver, CO | September 20-21 in Oklahoma City, OK | September 26-27 in Fairbanks, AK

  • HHS/OMH, OMHRCClinical HIV/AIDS Regional Training. This one-day training is for doctors, nurses, case managers, community health workers and other health care professionals working in tribal agencies and clinics that deliver HIV prevention services. It seeks to increase providers' knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment with presentation topics on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), HIV/HCV integration, and HIV & opioids. Supported by the Secretary's Minority AIDS Initiative Funds (SMAIF), the training is free to attend and limited to 30 providers serving AI/ANs. For further information, please contact Elton Naswood.

  • Johns Hopkins University/Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation and the HHS Food and Drug Administration (FDA): Symposium. Assessing and Communicating Heterogeneity of Treatment Effects for Patient Subpopulations: Challenges and Opportunities. Heterogeneity of treatment effects (HTE) is the variation in how individuals respond to a treatment. This symposium will focus on major sources of HTE, HTE considerations in study design and statistical analysis, and how HTE may be communicated to stakeholders via various avenues such as drug trial snapshots and labeling.

Clinical Trials

  • Virginia Commonwealth University, in collaboration with the HHS/NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA): Interventional study. Drug Interaction and Subjective Effects of Compounds for Opioid Use Disorder. Researchers seek volunteers ages 18-65 who meet current DSM-5 criteria for opioid use disorder but are not seeking treatment. Study to be conducted at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Learn more.

  • University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with HHS/NIH NIMHD: Interventional study. Men Together Making a Difference: Health Promotion for Black Men. Researchers seek Black men, 40 years or older, who are receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV. Study to be conducted at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Learn more.

Prevention of Hepatitis B Virus Infection in the United States: Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is a recent report that provides updates on recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). The report recommends policy changes such as universal hepatitis B virus vaccination of newborns and high-risk adults, along with suggestions for reducing transmission of the virus for pregnant women.
