@ The Knowledge Center - Recommended Reading

  • Black Women’s Health, subtitled Challenges and Opportunities, is a book that explores a wide array of factors that contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of African American women. Each chapter covers a different topic, from inequities in health care, to pregnancy, postpartum depression, the role of genetics in health, and reflections on how African-American women view their own personal health. Using academic theory while acknowledging the efforts of policymakers, researchers, and health care professionals, Black Women’s Health discusses both the mental and physical barriers to health care that African American women face, as well as ways these stakeholders can further assist in easing the burdens women face.
