The Social Determinants of Health of Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity, published for the Notah Begay III Foundation’s Native Strong: Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures Program, examines the root causes of obesity and type 2 diabetes in Native American children. In addition to reflecting on common factors such as the lack of access high quality food or safe places to exercise, the research framework also recognizes the effect of certain determinants on Native American populations, such as historical trauma and unstable living conditions.
