Join the Office of Minority Health Resource Center (OMHRC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) for the Faith Leaders and Health Ministries Play an Active Role in Contributing to Improve the Health of Their Communities webinar. Speakers from the CDC and Mr. Wayne Williams of the Samaritan Ministry in Knoxville, TN will highlight the role of faith leaders in contributing to  improve the health of their church members and their communities, and how the NDEP Faith Leaders Toolkit can help.

Federal Grants

  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH): Research Centers in Minority Institutions (U54) Specialized Center Cooperative Agreement. Provides support to institutions that offer doctorate degrees in the health professions or in a health-related science and have a historical and current commitment to  educating underrepresented students. Deadline for Letter of Intent (LOI) is November 15, 2017. Learn more.
  • HHS/CDC: DELTA (Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances) Impact - Cooperative Agreement. The DELTA program funds State Domestic Violence Coalitions to implement statewide intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention efforts, while also providing assistance and funding for local communities to implement IPV prevention activities.   • HHS/NIH: Testing Interventions for Health-Enhancing Physical Activity (R01 - Clinical Trial Optional) Grant. Provides support for up to 5 years for research planning, intervention delivery, and follow-up activities. Deadline is February 5, 2018. Learn more.

  • Colorado Trust: Health Equity Learning Series 5.0 Grant. Funds a series of four health equity talks given by health equity, health field, and/or community experts, as well as an 18-month intensive, coordinated equity and health equity curriculum. Deadline is October 31, 2017. Learn more.
  • Clif Bar Family Foundation: Small Grants Program. Awards general support grants in five focus areas, including creating healthy food systems, increasing opportunities for outdoor activity, and reducing environmental health hazards. Deadline is February 1, 2018. Learn more.

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA): Brain Dopaminergic Signaling in Opioid Use Disorders - Interventional Study. NIH researchers seek volunteers, 18-65 years old, who are dependent on opioids like heroin, hydrocodone, fentanyl, methadone, or oxycodone and are receiving or not receiving treatment for their addiction.   • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): A Longitudinal Investigation of the Endocrine and Neurobiologic Events Accompanying Puberty - Observational Study. NIH researchers seek healthy 8 year old children to participate in a research study that examines how puberty affects brain development.   • In observance of Health Literacy Month, we suggest reading “Measuring Health Literacy Levels of a Patient Portal Using the CDC's Clear Communication Index,” published in Health Promotion Practice. It describes a study that reviews a patient portal, a program that allows patients to see their health records and connect to other health-related information. The article uses the Clear Communication Index to show how the quality of information and its clarity can affect one’s ability to understand health-related communications, in addition to one’s knowledge of health terms and computer systems.
