- In observance of Health Literacy Month, we suggest reading “Measuring Health Literacy Levels of a Patient Portal Using the CDC's Clear Communication Index,” published in Health Promotion Practice. It describes a study that reviews a patient portal, a program that allows patients to see their health records and connect to other health-related information. The article uses the Clear Communication Index to show how the quality of information and its clarity can affect one’s ability to understand health-related communications, in addition to one’s knowledge of health terms and computer systems.
