Girlhood Interrupted: The Erasure of Black Girls' Childhood is a report published by the Georgetown Law Center on Poverty and Inequality that discusses a study in which adults completed surveys about their impressions of black girls, from the ages of 5 through 14. The data showed that black girls are thought of as more independent, needing less nurture and comfort than their white peers. Girlhood Interrupted delves into the how these perceptions connect to the ways black girls are treated in schools and the juvenile justice system, and how future studies and trainings can be used to address these biases.
