National Colon Cancer Awareness Month

OMH/OMHRC at Local Conferences and Events

  • OMH will be at the Dispelling Fear: Colorectal Cancer Awareness Forum on March 12, 9:00 am and 11:00 am ET at the Mt Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton MD. Join OMH and representatives from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American Cancer Society, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Howard University, the Colon Cancer Alliance, and the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation to learn useful information from experts and survivors on different screening  and treatment options, support groups, and patient services, and to sign up for future screenings and other valuable information.

Federal Grants

  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD): NIMHD Endowment Program for Increasing Research and Institutional Resources (S21) Capacity Building Grant. Eligibility is limited to private, public and/or state controlled institutions of higher education, as well as Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions, Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities. Deadline for Letter of Intent (LOI) is April 1, 2017. Learn more.  
  • Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS): Native American Library Services Basic Grants Program. Supports basic operations of tribal and Native village libraries, including the purchase of library materials, salaries and training, Internet connectivity and computers, or the development of public and private partnerships with other agencies and community-based organizations.   • HHS/NIH, NIMHD: New resource. Language Access Portal (LAP). The LAP contains information, in multiple languages, for six disease areas (cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and more) where major health disparities have been identified in non-English speaking populations. Learn more.

  • National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), in partnership with the National Medical Association, the National Council of Asian Pacific Islander Physicians, and the Association of American Medical Colleges: Congressional briefing. The Future of Diversifying in the Health Professions.
