Zika Community Roundtable and Webinar: Challenges, solutions and resources for communities and individuals

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health (HHS OMH), in collaboration with the Centro Innovación Social (CIS) in Puerto Rico, is organizing a Zika Community Roundtable and Webinar entitled El Zika: Retos, soluciones y recursos para las comunidades e individuos (Zika: Challenges, solutions and resources for communities and individuals.) This event will highlight community efforts regarding Zika response activities, the short term and long term effects of Zika on pregnant women, the health care system, and the economic impact. The webinar will also serve as a platform for community leaders, organizations, stakeholders and others to share best practices to protect themselves and/or their communities from mosquitos that carry the Zika virus. Additionally, emphasis will be placed on resources available to communities and the general public, particularly women of childbearing age, to increase knowledge and awareness about vector control.

The webinar will be open to the general public and will be held in Spanish on December 16, 2016 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm AST/ 8:00 am to 11:00 am EST at the CIS in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Media will be invited. 

This event will consist of three panels, each focusing on a different aspect of the impact of Zika.

Panel II: Strategies for overcoming challenges to address Zika in Puerto Rico

Panel III: Identifying best practices and priority-setting for future outbreaks through policy, community, and private sector solutions
