  • HHS/National Institutes of Health (NIH) Common Fund Initiative: Discovery of the Genetic Basis of Childhood Cancers and of Structural Birth Defects: Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program (X01) Resource Access Award.   • HHS/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): Targeted Capacity Expansion: Medication Assisted Treatment - Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction (MAT-PDOA). Provides funds for state agencies to expand or enhance access to medication assisted treatment services for individuals with opioid use disorder. Deadline is May 31, 2016.   • Department of Transportation (DOT)/Federal Transit Administration: Rides to Wellness (R2W) Demonstration and Innovative Coordinated Access and Mobility Grants Program. The goal of the R2W Demonstration Grants is to find and test promising, replicable public transportation healthcare access solutions that support increased access to care, improved health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs. Non-Federal Grants

  • Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), in partnership with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR), the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Workforce Improvement Projects (WIPs). Funds workforce development in various areas of public health practice, including tobacco control and surveillance of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The WIPs are available to AAMC members, as well as members of AACN, APTR, and ASPPH. Deadline is April 28, 2016. Learn more.  
  • Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF): New Connections: Increasing Diversity of RWJF Programming. Supports research grants and career development opportunities for researchers from diverse, underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. Deadline is May 4, 2016. Learn more.  
  • Elsa U. Pardee Foundation: Cancer Research Projects Grant. Funds investigators at non-profit US institutions proposing research directed toward identifying new treatments or cures for cancer. Deadline is June 1, 2016. Learn more.  
  • Kansas Health Institute/Center for Sharing Public Health Services: Cross-Jurisdictional Sharing (CJS) Mini-Grant Program. The Center has up to five mini-grants available for public health agencies or their designated agents that wish to explore, plan, implement or improve some aspects of a CJS arrangement.   • Elaine Chapin Fund (ECF): 2016 Elaine Chapin Scholarship Fund Program. Supports the postsecondary education of students affected by multiple sclerosis, either directly or as a family member of someone with MS. Deadline is April 30, 2016. Learn more
  • American Psychological Foundation (APF): 2016 Violet and Cyril Franks Scholarship. Supports graduate-level projects that use a psychological perspective to help understand and reduce stigma associated with mental illness. Deadline is May 15, 2016. Learn more

Clinical Trials

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK): Viral Kinetics, Interferon Stimulated Genes (ISGs) and mirRNA among Subjects Infected with Different Hepatitis C Virus Genotypes during Therapy with Sofosbuvir and GS-5816 (Study #15-DK-0143). NIH seeks adults 18 years of age and older who are infected with hepatitis C, particularly genotypes 2, 3 and 4, who have either never been treated or treated previously with an interferon regimen (with or without ribavirin) and failed to clear the virus. Opportunities for Public Comment

  • HHS/NIH and the FDA: Request for public comments. Draft Clinical Trial Protocol Template for Phase 2 and 3 Investigational New Drug (IND)/Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) Studies. NIH and FDA are developing a template with instructional and sample text for NIH funded investigators to use in writing protocols for phase 2 or 3 clinical trials that require IND or IDE applications. The agencies' goal is to encourage and make it easier for investigators to prepare protocols that are consistently organized and contain all the information necessary for the clinical trial to be properly reviewed.
