The U.S. National Science Foundation will issue vacancy announcements on Monday, June 15, that may be of particular interest to mid-career scientists and engineers.
The agency seeks to recruit scientists and engineers for the role of associate program director (AD-3). These positions serve a crucial role in advancing the agency's mission.
Associate program directors serve in an intermediate program management role within the NSF, supporting the administration, evaluation and oversight of scientific and science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related programs. NSF supports the professional development of associate program directors and program directors through interdisciplinary activities, training and opportunities for independent research and collaboration.
The NSF Directorate for Geosciences welcomes interest from applicants with expertise in any areas of the geosciences, such as the following areas of research.
-
Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences (AGS): Research to advance understanding of Earth's atmosphere and the near-Earth space environment, including the physical and chemical processes that drive variability and coupling across these regions, and across spatial and temporal scales.
-
Earth Sciences (EAR): Research to advance understanding of Earth's interior and surface processes, past and present, including the structure, physics and chemical evolution of Earth's interior; water, landscape and critical zone processes; and life and environments through time.
-
Ocean Sciences (OCE): Research to advance understanding of the ocean basins and Great Lakes and their role in the Earth system, including biological, chemical and physical oceanography and the geological and geophysical processes of the ocean.
These career opportunities will be listed on the NSF career webpage under current job openings. Applications must be submitted through USAJOBS.
Each announcement will be open for a limited time, so early application is encouraged. Also, there is a cap on the number of applications that will be accepted. Once the cap has been reached, no additional applications will be accepted.
