The U.S. National Science Foundation announces a new Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation (EFRI) program solicitation on Biocomputing through EnGINeering Organoid Intelligence (BEGIN OI) (24-508).
The BEGIN OI solicitation will support foundational and transformative research to advance the design, engineering, and fabrication of organoid systems that are capable of processing information dynamically while interfacing with non-living systems.
The EFRI program of the NSF Directorate for Engineering (ENG) will coordinate the BEGIN OI opportunity with the Directorate for Biological Sciences (BIO), the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE), the Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE).
Each EFRI BEGIN OI award will provide up to $2 million over four years. Letters of Intent (required) are due January 17, 2024.
