NSF Scholarships in STEM program (S-STEM) Frequently Asked Questions
Updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for the latest solicitation of the NSF Scholarships in STEM program (S-STEM) NSF 23-527 are now available.
This FAQ document provides answers to questions about eligibility, scholarship amount calculations, definition of low-income status for graduate students and allowable costs, evaluation requirements, etc.
If you or your colleagues want to submit a proposal and have questions, there is a high likelihood that you will find an answer in this document. For anything else, do not hesitate in contacting any of the program officers listed in the solicitation or the S-STEM leadership team.
The S-STEM Program supports institutions of higher education to fund scholarships for academically talented low-income undergraduate and graduate students and to study and implement a program of activities that support their recruitment, retention and graduation in STEM. Tracks 2, 3 and Collaborative Planning Grants proposals are due March 2, 2023, and Track 1 proposals are due March 29, 2023.

NSF Scholarships in STEM program Network (S-STEM-Net) New Solicitation
The S-STEM Program has released a new solicitation NSF 23-536 with an upcoming deadline of March 29, 2023. S-STEM-Net supports the creation of research hubs (S-STEM-Hubs) to study the conditions for the success of low-income undergraduate and graduate STEM students. S-STEM-Hubs awarded through this new solicitation will collaborate with recently awarded S-STEM-Hubs and the S-STEM Resource & Evaluation Center to create synergies and sustain a robust national ecosystem consisting of multi-sector partners supporting domestic low-income STEM students in achieving their career goals, while also ensuring access, inclusion, and adaptability to changing learning needs.

IUSE Program News and Reminders
The Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) program recently released a Dear Colleague Letter encouraging institutions that have not had prior support from the IUSE program to submit a proposal to Level 1 of the Engaged Student Learning track or to the Institutional and Community Transformation Capacity Building track. The full DCL can be found here.
The upcoming deadline for the IUSE program is January 18, 2023 for Institutional and Community Transformation proposals (Capacity Building and Level 1) and Engaged Student Learning Level 1. Please see the full IUSE solicitation (NSF 23-510).

Upcoming Events
Office Hours for Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) program
The National Science Foundation's HSI program supports projects that improve undergraduate STEM education and increase the rates of recruitment, retention and graduation of undergraduate STEM students at HSIs. To support our colleagues in the proposal writing process, the NSF HSI Program is pleased to announce a series of Office Hours. They are taking place on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting in January of 2023.
The latest HSI Solicitation (NSF 22-611) has a deadline of February 8, 2023 for Tracks 1 and 2. To help PIs prepare for the upcoming submission, Program Officers will be hosting a series of Office Hours. Each Office Hour will have a brief (approximately 15 minutes) presentation followed by an open question and answer period.
You and your team are invited to attend and participate. You will need to register to receive Zoom webinar links via email.
