Dear Colleagues,
Back-to-school season is a busy time for many in our community as students are welcomed back and we look ahead to the possibilities of the new academic year. Here at NSF, we are excited about the potential of the new research projects recently awarded through several of our multidisciplinary programs and initiatives, including Strengthening American Infrastructure, the Dynamics of Integrated Socio-Environmental Systems and Incorporating Human Behavior into Epidemiological Models.
We intend to announce additional new awards in the coming days that are similarly focused on supporting promising new ways to create value for the American people through human-focused scientific explorations. I want to sincerely thank all of you involved in the social, behavioral and economic sciences for the many creative and high-quality proposals that you have submitted to NSF.
Evidenced by the remarkable research outcomes highlighted below, it is your ingenuity and tenacity that drives these scientific breakthroughs and affirms the public’s support for STEM research.
The newly signed CHIPS and Science Act — and the increased research funding that it may lead to — is yet another encouraging symbol of the broad public support for your work. It is also a reminder that if we want technological innovations to have equitable and geographically broad benefits, we must invest in social and behavioral research, which can uniquely ensure such innovations are effective, accessible and fair for all Americans.
This is an energizing time to serve at NSF. If you too are drawn to our mission, I urge you to consider applying for the deputy assistant director position in our directorate’s leadership team. I hope that you will consider it and share it with your colleagues.
Thank you again for giving us the opportunity to support your inspiring work. I know that together we will continue to unlock new discoveries that can strengthen our many communities and make a profound difference in the lives of people.
Kellina Craig-Henderson NSF Assistant Director Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate
