Dear Colleagues,
The arrival of 2021 brings genuine optimism and hope, even in the face of major challenges and uncertainty. Like me, I’m certain that you share a vision for 2021 of greater safety, health, well-being and prosperity for every town, city and home in the U.S.
Within NSF’s Directorate for the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences we are excited about opportunities to harness the power of fundamental science to improve lives and communities. From our newly relaunched Build and Broaden Program, fueling partnerships and research at minority-serving institutions, to the Strengthening American Infrastructure initiative, aimed at improving critical national infrastructure, to the “BP Innovate” initiative to broaden participation in STEM-related innovation and entrepreneurship, SBE research opportunities have great potential to help people across the country.
I also know that our incredible research community is doing so much more than just hoping for a better year. As highlighted in this newsletter, you and your colleagues are utilizing the full scope of your abilities and expertise to further our understanding of humanity and reveal new discoveries and innovations that can help guide our nation to a brighter future.
The outcomes of your work will be evident in 2021 and beyond. We are proud to work with you and wish you all a safe, productive and compassionate new year.
Warmly,
Kellina Craig-Henderson NSF Deputy Assistant Director, SBE
