Webinar Description:
The gravimetric geoid model GEOID2022 serves as the surface of zero orthometric height for the North American-Pacific Geopotential Datum of 2022 (NAPGD2022), NGS's upcoming geopotential height system. This model has been jointly developed by NGS, CGS (Canadian Geodetic Survey), and INEGI (National Institute of Statistics and Geography, Mexico) using terrestrial gravity data, GRAV-D airborne gravity, the latest satellite gravity model, and satellite altimetry.
A new digital elevation model for gravity and topographic reductions, xG20DEM, was developed by combining TanDEM-X, the USGS 3DEP 1” DEM, and MERIT. GEOID2022 has an estimated accuracy of 1-2 cm in flat areas and 2-3 cm in mountains. GEOID2022 also features a dynamic component to maintain its accuracy over its lifetime. This presentation reports the project status, including GRAV-D progress, and challenges encountered in geoid modeling.
