  • NGS and its predecessor agencies have published scientific and technical information in various formats and publication series.

  • This library includes historical documents that have been digitized, a selection of NOAA reports written by NGS (or its predecessor agencies), and other miscellaneous publications that are related to NGS’ geodetic research.

  • Please note, many publications are accessible through the NOAA Library, and NGS is still digitizing some materials.

Understanding NOAA Scientific and Technical Publications

NOAA Technical Memorandums, NOAA Technical Reports, NOAA Manuals, and NOAA Special Publications are particularly relevant to people completing geodetic surveys today because NGS continues to update existing documents and add new publications in these series.

  • NOAA Technical Reports are journal quality publications with extensive details, mathematical developments, or data listings.

  • NOAA Technical Memorandums are reports of research or technology results, interim instructions, etc.

  • NOAA Manual Standardized instructions that should result in a specific result, relevant to some component of the NOAA mission.
