NOAA Fisheries Announces 2026 Maine Summer Flounder Fishery Closure

Effective October 13, 2026

The 2026 commercial summer flounder quota allocated to Maine has been harvested.  Effective at 0001 on October 13, 2026, vessels are prohibited from landing summer flounder in Maine for the remainder of the 2026 fishing year, unless additional quota becomes available through a transfer and is announced in the Federal Register.

The Maine Department of Marine Resources closed the state fishery on October 7, 2026. We are closing the Federal summer flounder commercial fishery in Maine to align with the closure of the state fishery and promote consistency between state and Federal management measures.

For more details, read the Federal Register notice as filed today, and the Permit Holder Bulletin on our website.
