Five Updated Geographic Strategic Plans 2024-2027
In July, NOAA Fisheries released updated Geographic Strategic Plans focused on the New England/Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, West Coast, Alaska, and the Pacific Islands regions. Designed to align with our NOAA Fisheries Strategic Plan, these region-specific plans support the Department of Commerce and NOAA’s Blue Economy vision. These plans articulate our agency’s mission and strategic goals, addressing local opportunities, challenges, and risks. The plans also reflect the Department’s one overarching vision: Strengthening American competitiveness in the 21st Century.
The plans also identify some of the key opportunities and challenges in today’s strategic landscape, which we will address by investing in the people, programs, and technology platforms that most advance our highest priorities and leverage the historic investments made available by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act.
Ten Equity and Environmental Justice Implementation Plans
Today, NOAA Fisheries announces the release of 10 Equity and Environmental Justice Strategy implementation plans. These plans outline how Fisheries’ program offices, regions, and science centers will approach implementation of the strategy.
The plans reflect our deep commitment to advancing Equity and Environmental Justice, including equal treatment, opportunities, and environmental benefits for all people and communities, while building on continuing efforts and partnerships with underserved and underrepresented communities. We make that commitment tangible by identifying specific actions we will take to be responsive to the needs of underserved communities.
