American Lobster Trap Transferability Program Application Period Reminder

Beginning August 1, 2024, we will begin accepting applications for 2025 American lobster trap transfers for Lobster Conservation Management Areas 2, 3, and the Outer Cape. The application period is open for two months and ends on September 30, 2024,

The Lobster Trap Transfer Program allows permit holders the flexibility to buy and sell trap allocation for Lobster Conservation Management Areas 2, 3, and the Outer Cape. All Federal American lobster permit holders can receive traps from the Trap Transfer Program. However, only qualified trap allocations from Areas 2, 3, and/or Outer Cape can be transferred. We will accept transfer applications from August 1, 2024, through September 30, 2024. To be accepted, applications must be postmarked, emailed to nmfs.gar.permits@noaa.gov, provided to a delivery service, or received by our office by September 30, 2024. Approved trap transfers will become effective for the start of the 2025 fishing year that begins on May 1, 2025.
