NOAA Fisheries Announces 2024-2025 Specifications for the Atlantic Mackerel Fishery

NOAA Fisheries announces specifications for the Atlantic mackerel 2024 and 2025 fishing years, including acceptable biological catch, commercial quota, and trip limits.

The commercial quota is 868 mt, which is a 76-percent reductions from the 2023 commercial quota. In order to achieve the reduced quota, trip limits are reduced to incidental levels at 20,000 lb for limited access permits and 5,000 lb for open access permits. Once 80 percent of the commercial quota is harvested, trip limits will be further reduced to 10,000 lb for limited access permits and 2,500 lb for open access permits. The reduced quota and catch limits are necessary to achieve the goal of the rebuilding plan to have the stock rebuilt by 2032.

Read the rule as published in the Federal Register today and our bulletin.
