What/When:
- The 2024 recreational fishing season for golden tilefish in federal waters of the South Atlantic, south of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina (35°15.19′ N. latitude), will end on February 29, 2024.
- The recreational season for golden tilefish started on January 1, 2024.
- NOAA Fisheries predicts that recreational golden tilefish landings will reach the recreational annual catch limit of 2,635 fish for the 2024 fishing year by February 29, 2024.
Why This Announcement is Happening:
This announcement is in compliance with the current accountability measure which states NOAA Fisheries will project the length of the recreational fishing season for golden tilefish based on catch rates from the previous fishing year and announce the end date of the recreational season.
Estimates indicate recreational landings for the 2024 fishing year will reach the 2024 recreational catch limit. Therefore, NOAA Fisheries announces that the end date of the recreational season for golden tilefish is February 29, 2024, and the recreational sector for golden tilefish in the South Atlantic federal waters will be closed from March 1 through December 31, 2024.

Permits Mailbox
The Permits Office in St. Petersburg, Florida now has a Permits mailbox in the front lobby (263 13th Ave. South, St. Petersburg, FL 33701). You can now drop off original permits for permit transfers. Envelopes with information labels will be provided so that your documents can be attached to the correct application. The mailbox will be checked daily.
