Concept papers due February 20: The Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office and Wind Energy Technologies Office announced a funding opportunity which includes up to $1.5 million for projects that advance potential synergies between offshore wind and/or marine energy and aquaculture development.

Apply by March 1: The Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group is accepting applicants for their 2024 shellfish growing season. Hatchery Assistants will help with the spawning, raising, cleaning, and feeding of quahogs, bay scallops and oysters, for local population enrichment in their hatchery facilities.

Apply by April 1: California Sea Grant and Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego are seeking an aquaculture extension specialist.

- MIT Sea Grant supports small coastal and marine related projects through STREAM Grants (Solutions Through Research, Education & Art in Massachusetts). Watch this video to learn about a STREAM Grant awarded to Island Creek Oysters to work with local middle school students to start a water quality monitoring program in Duxbury Bay, Massachusetts.
- Researchers Dr. Kevin Neves and Dr. Silvia Newell recently showed that a recirculating aquaponics system is capable of simultaneously raising Lake Erie yellow perch and crops like tomatoes and lettuce. Learn more in: Fish Fry with a Side of Salad.

U.S. aquaculture provides safe, sustainable seafood and creates jobs and business opportunities in coastal communities. Through a collaboration between NOAA Fisheries, the National Sea Grant Office, and NOAA's Office of Education, the Community of Practice for Aquaculture Literacy (CoPAL) works to enhance public understanding of sustainable aquaculture and seafood. CoPAL hosts events, shares resources, and coordinates partnerships across education, aquaculture industry, and research communities.
