Proposed Rule; Request for Comments
NOAA Fisheries published a proposed rule in the Federal Register (88 FR 89358, December 27, 2023) to revise the overfishing limit (OFL) and acceptable biological catch (ABC), and maintain the annual catch limit (ACL) for the central subpopulation of northern anchovy in the U.S. exclusive economic zone off the West Coast.
Proposed Harvest Specifications
OFL |
243,779 mt |
ABC |
60,945 mt |
ACL |
25,000 mt |
NOAA Fisheries prepared this proposed rulemaking in response to the Pacific Fishery Management Council's recommendations, based on the latest stock assessment, at their June 2022 meeting.
Under current regulations, if the ACL for this stock is reached or projected to be reached in a fishing year (January 1–December 31), then fishing will be closed until it reopens at the start of the next fishing year. This rulemaking is intended to conserve and manage the central subpopulation of northern anchovy off the U.S. West Coast.
Comments on this proposed rule must be received by January 26, 2024. Comments can be sent by using the "Submit a Formal Comment" button on the FR notice.
