2024 Highly Migratory Species Permits Are Now Available
NOAA Fisheries announces the procedure for obtaining a 2024:
- Atlantic Tunas Permit, which allows you to commercially fish for and/or retain Atlantic bluefin, yellowfin, skipjack, albacore, and bigeye tunas;
- Swordfish General Commercial Permit, which allows you to commercially fish for and/or retain Atlantic Swordfish;
- Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Angling Permit, which allows you to recreationally fish for and/or retain any regulated Atlantic highly migratory species (Atlantic tunas, sharks, swordfish, or billfish);
- Highly Migratory Species Charter/Headboat Permit, which is required by vessels taking fee-paying passengers fishing for or retaining highly migratory species.
The permits issued for the 2024 season will be valid from the date of issuance through December 31, 2024.
New for 2024
When renewing your highly migratory species permit online, you must create a user account and password associated with your permit. Although NOAA Fisheries will continue to accept paper applications for highly migratory species permits listed above for 2024, all correspondence, renewals and applications for these permits will be electronic in 2025.
