NOAA Fisheries Announces Commercial Blueline Tilefish Fishery Closure

Effective September 5

NOAA Fisheries is closing the commercial blueline tilefish fishery through the end of the fishing year, December 31, 2023.

When we project 100 percent of the commercial blueline tilefish TAL will be harvested, the regulations at 50 CFR 648.295(b)(2)(ii) require that we close the commercial blueline tilefish fishery for the remainder of the year. Based on weekly landings from dealer reports and other information, we project that 100 percent TAL will be harvested by September 5, 2023.

Effective at 0001 hour on September 5, 2023, no vessel may retain or land blueline tilefish in or from the Tilefish Management Unit (Figure 1) through December 31, 2023.
