The Greater Atlantic Region (GARFO) has a new feature for looking up vessel, dealer and operator permit information. Beginning next week, we are adding a quick response code (QR code) to our GARFO permits which will enable permit holders and the public to quickly access a permit’s status. The QR code will be generated on every permit that is “printed” from a permit holder’s Fish Online account.
What is a QR code?
A QR code is an easy way to access a webpage and current information on a vessel, dealer or operator permit. The QR code will direct users to our public permit website and will display the permit information for active permits. If a permit is not active, the webpage will not provide information for that permit.
How does a QR code work?
Scanning QR Codes on Android phones and iPhones does not require you to download an application. QR readers come standard on all Android and Apple phones making it easier for you to scan QR codes following these steps.
- Open the camera app from your device’s Home Screen or Control Center
- Hold your device so that the QR Code appears in the viewfinder
- Tap on the notification link that appears
- You will be directed to the Permit lookup page for that specific permit

How do I get a QR code?
If you have an existing permit that does not have a QR code and you would like one on your permit, you can simply go to your Fish Online account to generate a revised permit with a QR code. The QR codes can only be generated by “printing” a permit from a permit holder’s Fish Online account.
