Although a relatively small producer, the U.S. is a major player in global aquaculture, supplying a variety of advanced technology, feed, equipment, and investment capital to producers around the world. Aquaculture Opportunity Areas Featured at Aquaculture America 2022
At Aquaculture America, NOAA staff gave presentations about the process to identify Aquaculture Opportunity Areas–small, defined geographic areas that have been evaluated to determine potential suitability for commercial aquaculture. The Alaska Fisheries Science Center released a new strategic research plan for shellfish and seaweed aquaculture in Alaska. This plan will be used to guide science center aquaculture-related research over the next 5 years, and provide needed information for state and federal regulatory agencies and coastal communities in Alaska.
