NOAA Fisheries Announces Notice of Availability for Amendment 22 to the Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Fishery Management Plan

Comment Period Open Through August 8

Today, NOAA Fisheries published a notice of availability for Amendment 22 to the Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Fishery Management Plan (FMP) in the Federal Register. We request public comments on this action, as proposed by the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council. Amendment 22 seeks to revise the number and type of Illex squid permits to reduce the negative impacts from the race to fish observed since 2017. Such action also seeks to align the FMP goals and objectives with the current Council vision and priorities.

For more information, read the notice as published in the Federal Register today. The comment period is open through August 8, 2022. You may submit your comments through the e-rulemaking portal.
