Inseason Adjustment
Large Coastal Shark Retention Limit Increase to 45 Sharks per Trip for Atlantic Region
Fishermen in the Atlantic with directed shark limited access permits may retain up to 45 hammerhead and large coastal sharks (LCS) other than sandbar sharks per vessel per trip as of August 16, 2019.
What is changing?
NOAA Fisheries is increasing the retention limit for the commercial aggregated LCS and hammerhead shark management groups in the Atlantic region from 36 to 45 LCS.
How long will the adjustment be effective?
The retention limit will remain at 45 LCS other than sandbar sharks per vessel per trip in the Atlantic region through the rest of the 2019 fishing season unless we announce in the Federal Register another adjustment to the retention limit or close the fishery.
Who is affected?
This retention limit adjustment affects anyone with a directed shark limited access permit fishing for LCS in the Atlantic region.
This notice is a courtesy to the HMS fishery participants to help keep you informed about the fishery.
