VADM French recently submitted a voluntary retirement request. The Secretary of Defense approved this request, and he retired as a Rear Admiral (Upper Half) on January 1, 2025, following more than 31 years of dedicated service to our Navy and our Nation. We thank him for his many contributions to the JAG Corps, and wish him the very best during the next chapter of his life.
I sincerely appreciate your patience and professionalism during the past month. As a legal community, we understand the importance of protecting the integrity of senior leadership’s decision-making processes. We also share a duty to appropriately safeguard the privacy of all service members – from our newest recruits to our senior-most Flag officers.
Given the vacancy in the Judge Advocate General position, I am now performing the duties of the Judge Advocate General of the Navy in accordance with law and policy. I do not yet have details on decisions regarding the selection of the next Judge Advocate General.
Irrespective of our change in leadership, our JAG Corps’ warfighting mission continues. There has been – and will continue to be – no interruption in our daily operations. Together, we remain focused on providing full-spectrum legal services to the Fleet.
We have a great deal of work ahead of us, and I look forward to completing it alongside you. Thank you for your support and your enduring commitment to one another and our JAG Corps.
