Edison Nation® “Made in America” Supplier Scouting Opportunities Now Available

Edison Nation®, an idea-to-shelf product developer and innovation platform has partnered once again with the NIST MEP on their Made in America Program. This program gives U.S.-based manufacturers the first chance to bid on producing new products for large, established companies. The companies and brands participating in this program are Belk, Bob Timberlake, Snapware, Pyrex, Chicago Cutlery, Corelle, Worx, and ToyQuest.

This is a great opportunity for U.S. based manufacturers to bid on making products with a guaranteed large distribution channel. The product requests for quotes (RFQs) are currently available for Belk and Bob Timberlake. We will issue RFQs for Snapware, Pyrex, Chicago Cutlery, and Corelle on Monday, April 1. ToyQuest and Worx will be issued Wednesday, April 3. Please send these requests out to your company networks. With the reach of the MEP network we can help U.S. companies find new opportunities to manufacture products for large retailers.

To request a copy of the current Edison Nation RFQ's or for questions, please contact Dave Cranmer (David.Cranmer@nist.gov | 301-975-5753 or Caroline Ranghel Ashley (Ranghel@rti.org | 919- 541-6822

The Make it In America Challenge

The Make it in America Challenge will allow applicants to submit one application to support the development and implementation of a regional economic development strategy accelerating job creation by encouraging re-shoring by U.S. firms, fostering Foreign Direct Investment, encouraging U.S. companies to keep or expand their businesses in the United States, and training local workers. The challenge will award up to $40 million in federal funds from DOC’s EDA and NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST MEP), DOL’s ETA, and the DRA.

NIST is making up to $6 million available through the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) as part of this challenge. MEP expects to issue new cooperative agreements of up to $125,000 per year over three years to up to 15 existing MEP Centers as part of selected Make it in America Challenge projects, subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. MEP Center participation could include providing market intelligence and analysis, outreach to existing firms, and technical assistance to businesses looking to relocate or expand in the U.S. More information and resources are also available at http://manufacturing.gov/make_it_in_america.html

Innovative Manufacturing Projects Opportunities with Department of Energy

As part of the President's effort "to guarantee that the next revolution in manufacturing is made right here in America," the Energy Department announced that it will make a new $23.5 million investment in five additional innovative manufacturing R&D projects. This new funding -as well as the $54 million invested in 13 projects during the first round of selections in June of 2012- for advanced manufacturing will serve as a ground floor investment in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's new Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative (CEMI). The projects are expected to improve energy productivity, reduce pollution, and boost product output, while creating jobs and helping American companies expand export opportunities globally.

The selected projects announced for negotiations, will cover R&D in computational modeling and simulation for automation and equipment, steel fabrication processing, steel heat treatment processing, high value petrochemicals, and waste heat minimization manufacturing.

Below is a list of the selected project recipients and DOE funding request:
