Second Annual National Manufacturing Day: October 4, 2013

As you’ve heard and will continue to hear, one of MEP’s objectives for 2013 and beyond is to have a louder voice and more visible position in promoting manufacturing and the manufacturing eco-system. We want to showcase manufacturing’s capacity for innovation, job creation and driving economic prosperity. In order to help move forward on this objective, we signed on, for the second year, to be a co-producer with the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, the Manufacturing Institute, and the National Association of Manufacturers of Manufacturing Day. See the press release.

The goal for Manufacturing Day is to have 500 open houses around the country—essentially doubling the 240 that took place in 37 states last year. Manufacturing Day’s mission is to expand knowledge of manufacturing’s value to the U.S. economy and improve general public perception of manufacturing careers. The objectives align with MEP's mission to improve US manufacturing and help manufacturers compete globally.

Further, we have an MEP internal goal that all MEP centers will participate this year — either by working with clients or potential clients to put together the events, or by attending an open house on Manufacturing Day.

We are in the process of putting together resources with our co-producers, including a new and improved logo, website, and materials. These shared tools will be available for all Manufacturing Day participants. In the meantime, please mark your calendars and hold 10/4 as Manufacturing Day. And, stay tuned for more information about upcoming webinars to share information and some best practices from last year.

If you have any questions, please contact Zara Brunner (301-975-2001, zara.brunner@nist.gov) or Mark Schmit (301-975-3255, mark.schmit@nist.gov). Thank you!.

National MEP Supplier Scouting Webcast Recap

On February 7, 2013 NIST MEP hosted a Supplier Scouting Webcast. The webcast updated centers about Supplier Scouting activities and allowed centers to become more familiar with the new Make It In America Collaboration Tool that was launched in St. Louis on January 29th. The MEP Connect tool has been developed and launched to serve as the primary mechanism going forward by which NIST MEP will disseminate Supplier Scouting opportunities to the MEP System, and also the means by which MEP Supplier Scouting POCs will submit scouting results to NIST MEP. This tool was developed to not only streamline our Supplier Scouting process, but to also help build a stronger MEP Supplier Scouting Community.

If you were unable to attend the webinar, or for those of you who want to see the recording again, the webinar is now available for viewing.
