On November 12, 2024, NIST will host the first in a series of public workshops for its Assessing Risks and Impacts of AI (ARIA) program. A research-driven program in NIST’s AI Innovation Lab, ARIA aims to bridge current risk measurement gaps and account for AI’s opportunities and threats in the real world.
The first workshop will provide an overview of ARIA and how to participate, followed by a group exercise and open discussion about the objectives for annotation in the program’s experimentation environment. With an initial focus on information-based risks, ARIA’s approach pairs people with AI applications in experimental scenarios to enable repeatable measurement of risks and resulting impacts.
ARIA continues a long tradition of NIST engagement with the scientific community to accelerate technology development by using AI applications submitted from organizations around the world to create an environment for iterative, ongoing exploratory research. The ARIA workshop series deepens this engagement with the AI risk research community to collaboratively drive the most promising research directions for technology improvements.
The workshop will take place at the American Geophysical Union in Washington, D.C. For more information about ARIA, go to https://ai-challenges.nist.gov/aria or email aria_inquiries@nist.gov.
The registration fee for in-person attendance is $70.00 and includes all-day beverage service, lunch, and an afternoon snack.
The virtual registration fee is $46.00.
Registration for in-person attendance closes on November 6, 2024..
