 NIST NCCoE 'Cybersecurity Connections' Event Recap – Focusing in on Cybersecurity Careers
Connecting early-career cybersecurity professionals with the right opportunities and resources is essential for organizations as the demand for a skilled cyber workforce continues to grow. In celebration of Cybersecurity Career Week and Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the NIST National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) hosted a ‘Cybersecurity Connections’ event focused on cybersecurity careers on October 15, 2024.
This event, co-hosted alongside NICE (NIST), the Maryland Department of Commerce, and Montgomery County, Maryland, brought together leaders and established cybersecurity professionals from industry, academia, and government and connected them with individuals at the beginning stages of their cybersecurity careers (and those wanting to transition into the cybersecurity field).
Keynote speakers included Maryland State Senator Katie Fry Hester and Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. Featured panelists, many of whom transitioned to cybersecurity from non-traditional career paths themselves, shared invaluable insights into available career opportunities and programs, as well as industry trends and sought-after skills for job seekers.
Marc Elrich also presented NCCoE Director Cherilyn Pascoe with a certificate of recognition and appreciation for the NCCoE’s role in supporting cybersecurity awareness, education, career and economic development opportunities.
