OSAC Standards Bulletin

October 2024

The latest Organization of Scientific Area Committees (OSAC) for Forensic Science Standards Bulletin is now available. In the October issue read about:

  • Standards Updates. The OSAC Registry now contains 209 standards! See the six standards we have added to the Registry this month in the areas of forensic toxicology, biology/DNA, gunshot residue, and friction ridge, along with an updated version of ASTM E2917 (Standard Practice for Forensic Science Practitioner Training, Continuing Education, and Professional Development Programs). Provide your feedback by November 4 on an OSAC Proposed Standard on terminology for shooting reconstruction that is being considered for the Registry and on 14 other forensic science standards that are currently open for comment at standards developing organizations. View the newly published ASTM standard for organic gunshot residue and five newly published standards from SWGDE.
  • Registry Implementation Impacts and Resources. See how standards implementation correlates to the latest Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) report and learn how you can submit your implementation activities. If your organization is an OSAC Registry Implementer, mark your calendar for the Annual OSAC Implementer Meeting happening November 14.
  • 2024 Sharon B. Nakich Award Recipient. Congratulations to Dr. Tatiana Trejos for being awarded the 2024 Sharon B. Nakich Award. This peer-to-peer award memorializes a NIST colleague, Sharon Nakich, who served OSAC with passion, kindness, and wholehearted dedication.
