NIST has issued a Request for Information (RFI) that will assist in implementing its responsibilities under the recent Executive Order on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Responses will support NIST’s efforts to evaluate capabilities relating to AI technologies and develop a variety of guidelines called for in the Executive Order. The RFI specifically calls for information related to AI red-teaming, generative AI risk management, synthetic content labeling and authentication, and advancing responsible global technical standards for AI development.
Responses will be accepted until Feb. 2, 2024 at 11:59 pm Eastern time.
Comments may be submitted by the Federal e-Rulemaking Portal (accessed here) or by visiting www.regulations.gov and entering NIST–2023–0009 in the search field.
Electronic submissions may also be sent as an attachment to ai-inquiries@nist.gov and may be in any of the following unlocked formats: HTML; ASCII; Word; RTF; Unicode, or .pdf.
Response to this RFI is voluntary. Submissions must not exceed 25 pages (when printed) in 12-point or larger font, with a page number provided on each page. Please include your name, organization's name (if any), and cite “NIST AI Executive order” in all correspondence.
Please carefully review all instructions prior to submission. All comments and submissions, including attachments and other supporting materials, will become part of the public record and subject to public disclosure. NIST will not accept comments accompanied by a request that part or all of the material be treated confidentially because of its business proprietary nature or for any other reason. Therefore, do not submit confidential business information or otherwise sensitive, protected, or personal information, such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, or names of other individuals.
