For Good Measure
In the late springtimes of years past, I might have written that wildfire season would soon be upon us, but because of climate change, wildfires have become a year-round phenomenon. It’s more important than ever for those in wildfire zones to harden their homes against fire threats. In today’s issue, a NIST news story shared new guidance on how far away sheds should be separated from homes to reduce the risks of fire spreading from one structure to another. NIST has also explored wildfire hazards in residential fences and mulch beds and offered guidance for holistic home and community wildfire protection. NIST looks for lessons learned from past wildfires, and for an example of one ongoing case study, check out our photo essay on the timeline of California’s deadliest wildfire.
