Securing the Industrial Internet of Things: Cybersecurity for Distributed Energy Resources

Energy Sector

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices at the grid edge are increasing rapidly and transforming the power grid. Their connectivity, the conduit through which they can become vulnerable, is an emerging cyber threat to the distribution grid.

Join us on December 9, 2021 for a deep dive into the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence's (NCCoE’s) cybersecurity guidance to help energy companies protect IIoT data integrity and communications. In this session we will cover:

  • An example solution that describes how information exchanges between commercial- and utility-scale distributed energy resources (DERs) and the electric power distribution grid can be monitored, trusted, and protected.
  • How the NCCoE collaborated with stakeholders in the electricity sector, the University of Maryland, and cybersecurity technology vendors to build a laboratory environment that represents a distribution utility interconnected with a campus DER microgrid.
  • How you can get involved in the NIST NCCoE energy sector efforts.

We will also reserve 15 minutes at the end of the webinar for questions.

Guest Speakers:

  • Jim McCarthy, Senior Security Engineer, NIST NCCoE
  • Don Faatz, Senior Architect, The MITRE Corporation at the NCCoE
  • NCCoE project collaborators from Anterix, Cisco, Dots and Bridges, Radiflow, Spherical Analytics, Sumo Logic, TDi Technologies, and Xage Security
