For questions please contact Cheryl Gendron.
Earlier this week, in Cleveland, OH (during a visit with Great Lakes Towing Company, a client of MAGNET, the OH MEP affiliate), the Department of Labor (DOL) announced a new grant "America’s Promise" to strengthen the pipeline of skilled workers to expand an economic region’s middle- to high-skilled workforce within prioritized industry sector(s).
The grant seeks projects that will provide individuals the opportunity to get high-quality, tuition free education and training that leads to in-demand and industry-recognized credentials and degrees. A fundamental goal of America’s Promise is to accelerate the development of new and the expansion of existing 21st century regional workforce partnerships with business and industry leaders committed to providing a pipeline of skilled workers in a specific industry sector(s).
In one of the three eligibility categories MEP’s are called out specifically as a possible lead -business-related nonprofit organizations, an organization functioning as a workforce intermediary for the express purpose of serving the needs of an industry, or a regional or industry association. Seek out your regional partners and see how you can participate. MEP is talking with DOL representatives to possibly host a briefing for MEP centers in the near future. NIST invites proposals from current MEP Centers to pilot test approaches that provide needed technology acceleration assistance to small and mid-sized U.S. manufacturers through the establishment of meaningful and results oriented collaborations between the nationwide system of Centers operating as part of the NIST MEP, and the Institutes participating in the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). For more information click here.
NIST MEP recently partnered with IBISWorld to provide access to all centers to the IBISWorld Industry Research Database. This resource is a complement to the Industry Profiles that are available on MEIS.
IBISWorld’s database contains research reports on 1,300+ different industries. These reports will allow you to quickly become more knowledgeable on the industries your clients operate within. Reports include information on an industry’s operating conditions, current performance, a 5-year industry projection, and macroeconomic trends. The next upcoming web demonstration is scheduled for Thursday June 16, 2016 at 4:00 PM EST | Webinar Link | Password: EiRYqJbjm4q$
For questions please contact Ken Voytek. If you attended the June 9th webinar, and need to set up a username and password, please contact Geery Grant at geery.grant@ibisworld.com.
Last week we announced the Foundation for Manufacturing Excellence (FORME) is facilitating a survey to gather direct feedback from the National Network about the development of a mobile technology.
NIST MEP is looking to expand the organizations’ technical assistance approach. By creating a mobile app which accounts for the centers perspective of a successful user experience, MEP is looking to improve the sharing of information across the MEP national network, enhance data collection and improve personalization of services to enable the system to serve clients more efficiently.
This survey will measure input from the system in regards to the development of a mobile technology and will be open for two weeks. Click here to provide your input. For questions please contact Nico Thomas.

Manufacturer’s Edge, Colorado’s MEP, is launching their Legislative Connect series of events on June 17th with Congresswoman Diana DeGette, Chief Deputy Whip of the US House, representing Colorado’s 1st Congressional District. This inaugural event will take place Manufacturer’s Edge client Geotech Environmental Equipment in Denver, CO. The Legislative Connect events are an offshoot of the Beers & Gears events which have brought Manufacturers together with local breweries to tour facilities, learn from their peers, share the successes of Manufacturer’s Edge clients, and highlight the beer Colorado is famous for. While Beers & Gears provided the opportunity to tour 2 or 3 manufacturers, Legislative Connect will bring Legislators into a setting where they will moderate a panel consisting of 3 or 4 leaders in Colorado Manufacturing discussing a variety of topics. Following the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to network with other manufacturers, education partners, service providers and the Legislative Representative and their staff. All MEP members are welcome to attend if they wish to travel to Colorado for the event, and Manufacturer’s Edge will provide assistance for them in selecting hotels and setting up tours of Manufacturers while they are here. For full details on this event, and to register, click here. Manufacturer’s Edge is committed to the success of all partners in the MEP Network, if you would like more information on how to set up a Beers & Gears or Legislative Connect event in your state, please feel free to reach out to Marketing Manager Nathan Morimitsu.
