NIST MEP Event Reminders

  • MEP Update Meeting: The next MEP Update Meeting is scheduled for May 17-18, 2016 in Charleston, SC. The Advisory Board Meeting will follow on May 19, 2016
  • Upcoming Regional Forums for Round 4 State Competitions: Prior to the July announcement for the next state competition, we will be conducting three regional forums in Washington, DC (May 13), Denver, CO (May 24), and Chicago, IL (June 7) to provide interested organizations more information about the MEP program, the state competition, and answer any questions regarding the funding announcement. For more information on the forums, including dates and specific locations, please visit the MEP Competition page. To register for one of the forums, please email mepffo@nist.gov.

NIST MEP SBIR Infographic

We have released the latest infographic. Known as America’s Seed Fund, SBIR awards enable small businesses to explore technology-based solutions and provides the incentive to profit from the commercialization of their research results. By including qualified small businesses in the nation's R&D arena, high-tech innovation is stimulated and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development needs.

Career and Technical Education Makeover Challenge

The Department of Education has announced the requirements and registration for the Career and Technical Education Makeover Challenge.  The Challenge calls upon eligible high schools to design models of makerspaces that strengthen career and technical skills through making (models of CTE makerspaces).  Definitions within the formal notice published in the March 9th Federal Register.

  1. "makerspace,'' a formalized space for making, is an environment and facility that provides resources, materials, and equipment for students to conceive, create, collaborate, and learn through making; and
  2. "making'' refers to a hands-on learning approach that encourages students to imagine, create, tinker, and learn through the process of manufacturing, testing, and demonstrating their ideas.
The Department is seeking models of CTE makerspaces across a wide range of facility types, such as classrooms, libraries, and mobile spaces, that it can share with educators to encourage the creation of affordable, scalable, and replicable makerspaces.” Submissions are due by April 1 to CTE Makeover Challenge on www.CTEMakeoverChallenge.com
