Dear Friend of NIMH:

You are cordially invited to attend the next Open Policy Session of the National Advisory Mental Health Council (NAMHC) on Thursday, May 22, 2014.  This policy session is an excellent opportunity for the mental health research and advocacy communities to become informed about current programs and priorities of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

The Open Policy Session will be held at the Neuroscience Center, 6001 Executive Boulevard, Rockville, Maryland in conference room C/D/E, first floor Conference Center. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am and conclude by 2:15 pm.  Our council meeting will also be available for viewing over the internet via the NIH videocast website at (http://videocast.nih.gov/default.asp).

The discussions planned include a report from NIMH Director, Dr. Thomas Insel, as well as a discussion of the next phase of the NIMH Strategic Plan. Dr. Stephen Friend has been invited to speak on data sharing and big data and to share his vision for how big data can change our approach to brain disorders research.  NIMH also plans to have an extended discussion of several concepts for potential future funding initiatives.

Time for public comments is currently scheduled for 2:00 pm, although the time could change.  We recommend that you check the website for additional details concerning the agenda, available soon at http://www.nimh.nih.gov/about/advisory-boards-and-groups/namhc/index.shtml.

If you plan to attend, please register by noon, Tuesday, May 20 at
