November is National Native American Heritage Month
National Native American Heritage Month was first recognized at the federal level in 1990 to celebrate the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans.
During National Native American Heritage Month, learn more about research focused on reducing the burden of suicide among youth and addressing mental health challenges in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
In this video, NIH Tribal Health Research Office Director David R. Wilson, Ph.D., and NIMH Director Joshua Gordon, M.D., Ph.D., discuss current issues related to mental health in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities. Their conversation touches on the large-scale mental health impacts of COVID-19, the importance of suicide prevention, and relevant NIMH research and resources.

Family Health History Day is November 23
Typically observed on Thanksgiving, Family Health History Day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of knowing your family's health and mental health history. This knowledge can be a powerful tool for early intervention and prevention and contribute to healthier and happier lives for us and our future generations.
November is National Diabetes Month
November is American Diabetes Month, a time when communities team up to raise awareness about diabetes. People with chronic medical conditions, like diabetes, are at higher risk of depression.
Veterans Day is November 11
Veterans may face mental health challenges, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and risk of suicide. This Veterans Day, share information and resources to help those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
