The National Institute of Mental Health, Grand Challenges Canada, Wellcome and the International Alliance of Mental Health Research Funders are co-sponsoring the 12th Global Mental Health Research without Borders Conference from October 30, 31, and November 1, 2023. This event will bring together researchers, innovators, and other scholars from around the globe to showcase findings from cutting-edge science and explore new opportunities for groundbreaking research. We believe this opportunity to share, learn, create and connect will be invaluable to moving our collective global mental health research efforts forward – please join us. Stay tuned for more updates.
We invite all investigators wishing to present original and innovative global mental health research to submit abstracts for consideration. Abstract Submission Deadline: May 31, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. ET (U.S.).

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) seeks research applications for effectiveness and implementation science on the post-acute (long-term or chronic) management of mental health conditions. This FOA aims to advance the development of novel and innovative implementation research to improve the availability and accessibility of post-acute services in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). All research applications must propose a cost analysis of the intervention that is studied.

The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to encourage formative research and pilot testing of culturally appropriate innovative preventive, therapeutic, and service interventions to reduce the risk of suicide and suicide ideation and behavior (SIB), and/or non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and promote resilience for people across the life span in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). During the development and testing of interventions, attention to implementation factors is strongly encouraged. This could include formative work to measure and understand the feasibility, acceptability, adoption, fidelity, and costs of interventions to reduce the risk of suicide and SIB and/or NSSI and promote resilience for people across the life span in LMICs.
All projects must propose a research project element and a research capacity element. Researchers are expected to describe activities between institutions and the countries involved to strengthen research capacity in LMICs and enhance the potential for multidirectional knowledge and research advancements exchange.
NIMH encourages applicants from LMICs and welcomes applicants from the United States or other high-income countries (HICs) to partner with sites in LMICs.

NIMH seeks applications to support the development and pilot testing of outcomes-focused access and quality metrics in global mental health services research that could be reviewed, approved, and implemented by the relevant regulatory or governing domestic bodies of the country or countries where the research takes place. NIMH is interested in studies that take a theory-driven, empirical, and culturally appropriate approach to developing and testing measures utilizing real-world data. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) aims to advance the development of novel and innovative research to assess outcomes mediated through changes in access to mental health care and quality of care across programs or clinical settings.
