Notice of Intent to Publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement for Suicide Prevention Across the Life Span in Low- and Middle-Income Countries

The National Institute of Mental Health intends to publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications to encourage formative research and pilot testing of culturally appropriate innovative preventive, therapeutic, and service interventions to reduce the risk of suicide and suicide ideation and behavior (SIB), and/or non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and promote resilience for people across the life span in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). During the development and testing of interventions, attention to implementation factors is strongly encouraged. This could include formative work to measure and understand the feasibility, acceptability, adoption, fidelity, and costs of interventions to reduce the risk of suicide and SIB and/or NSSI and promote resilience for people across the life span in LMICs.

Center for Global Mental Health Research 2022 Webinar Series

The 2022 Center for Global Mental Health Research (CGMHR) webinar series aimed to increase the capacity of researchers interested in applying for NIMH grants focused on global mental health research. The seven webinars provided essential information to improve the knowledge of potential applicants about the NIH submission and review process and how to manage a grant once it is funded. Webinars were developed for applicants at different levels of their research careers.

New Funding Opportunity Announcement: Social Drivers of Mental Illnesses in Low- & Middle-Income Countries: Mechanisms and Pathways of Interventions for Youth (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit research that will help to identify and explain the mechanisms by which interventions targeting social drivers of mental illnesses affect mental health and functioning of children and/or adolescents (ages 5-24 years) living in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In addition, this FOA solicits research on changes in downstream social outcomes that result from interventions that target mental health. Studies should use innovative approaches to capture as much real-world complexity as possible in identifying and elucidating mechanisms that capture the bidirectional nature between social drivers and mental health outcomes, and the relationship between mental health and downstream social outcomes in children and/or adolescents.
