October is ADHD Awareness Month

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. While there is no cure for ADHD, treatment can help reduce symptoms and improve everyday functioning for children and adults with ADHD.

October 2-8 is Mental Illness Awareness Week. Millions of Americans live with a mental illness, and millions more family, friends, and coworkers are affected by mental illness. Join NIMH and advocates across the country in raising awareness about mental illness and advocating for the importance of caring for your mental health.

National Depression Screening Day

October 6 is National Depression Screening Day. Depression is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. Like other illnesses, screening for depression is an integral part of your health care.

OCD Awareness Week

October 9-15 is OCD Awareness Week. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common, long-lasting disorder characterized by uncontrollable, recurring thoughts (obsessions) that can lead people to engage in repetitive behaviors (compulsions). OCD can affect adults, adolescents, and children, and if left untreated, OCD can interfere with all aspects of life.
