Children's Mental Health Awareness Week

May 2-8 is Children's Mental Health Awareness Week. Mental health is an important part of overall health for children as well as adults. For a young person with symptoms of a mental disorder, the earlier treatment is started, the more effective it can be. Early treatment can help prevent more severe, lasting problems as a child grows up.

Children and Mental Health: Is This Just a Stage?

At times, all children are sad, anxious, irritable, or aggressive. They may also occasionally find it challenging to sit still, pay attention, or interact with others. In most cases, these are just typical developmental phases; however sometimes these behaviors may indicate a more serious problem.

This fact sheet presents information about assessing your child’s behavior, when to seek help, first steps for parents, treatment options, and factors to consider when choosing a mental health professional: https://go.usa.gov/xHngz

National Women's Health Week
