Study enrolling former Athletes with Head Injuries,
Memory and Thinking Problems
This study seeks to understand how head injury impacts the brain. A new compound is being tested to see if it can detect abnormal brain proteins as a method to diagnosis chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). The study is enrolling former athlete’s ages 18-60.
Participants must be 18-60 years of age and have memory or thinking problems that interfere with daily life, a history of head injury from playing contact sports (ie: football, hockey, boxing), and be free of certain medical conditions (call to find out). Participation includes 1-6 outpatient visits, cognitive evaluations, medical history, physical exam, bloodwork, and brain scans.
There is no cost to participate and compensation, transportation & lodging are provided. The study is conducted at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
