Honoring Black History, Healthy Hearts, and Community Initiatives to Address Structural Inequities

Each February the nation celebrates Black History Month, and a few years ago NIH’s theme was “Small Actions, Big Impact: Using Allyship to Enhance Our Culture.” As the director of ORWH, I recognize the importance of creating an organizational culture of inclusion and providing everyone the opportunity to make change. Each of us has the power to choose inclusive actions with our speaking and our behavior. February is also American Heart Month. Cardiovascular disease affects people from all walks of life, all genders, and all ages. It can present differently in women than in men and remains a leading cause of death in women. I encourage all of us to prioritize taking small, heart-healthy actions to make change, such as adding fruits and vegetables to daily meals or taking the stairs rather than the elevator. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) developed tools to help all of us live a heart-healthy lifestyle. New Request for Information Released, Inviting Input on NIH-Wide Strategic Plan for Autoimmune Disease Research

The Office of Autoimmune Disease Research in the Office of Research on Women’s Health (OADR-ORWH) recently released the Request for Information (RFI): Inviting Input on an NIH-Wide Strategic Plan for Autoimmune Disease Research. The purpose of this RFI is to gather input from internal and external partners throughout the scientific research, advocacy, and clinical practice communities, including those employed by NIH and by institutions receiving NIH support, as well as the public, on four areas related to autoimmune disease research.

Applications are due by March 1, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

ORWH Announces Travel Awards for Two Junior Investigators to Present at The Menopause Society Annual Meeting in Chicago

ORWH is pleased to announce travel awards to support the development of two junior investigators interested in the study of menopause. This award will provide two junior investigators up to $3,000 each to defray the cost of attending The Menopause Society Annual Meeting from September 10 to 14, 2024, in Chicago. The scholars’ abstracts on a menopause-related topic must be accepted for an oral or poster presentation at the Annual Meeting to receive the award. 

Abstracts should be submitted to The Menopause Society by April 30, 2024.
