Are you an academic or small business life science innovator looking for free entrepreneurship training? Submit your request for the NIH Entrepreneurship Bootcamp by Friday, December 20, to learn about:
- The customer discovery process to assess customer and stakeholders needs
- How to develop stronger business models and market strategies
- How to validate commercialization plans
Eligibility
- Submissions must include a team of at least two people
- A technical lead with expertise in the proposed project area
- A business lead who is interested in learning how to assess whether the innovation presents a compelling commercialization opportunity
- Each team member must commit to spending 10-20 hours/week for webinars, coaching, and coursework over 7 weeks
If you have an active SBIR/STTR award (including no cost extension) during the course, your team is not eligible for this program. (Active SBIR/STTR Phase I awardees are eligible for other programs.)

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Small Business Applicant Assistance Program (AAP) is open for applications. This program cycle is intended for applicants who plan to submit their Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications for the Saturday, April 5, 2025, submission deadline.
The NIAID Small Business AAP will offer support for companies planning to apply for a NIAID Phase I, Phase II/IIB, Fast Track, or Direct-to-Phase II SBIR/ STTR Awards at no cost. NIAID encourages AAP participation from small businesses that are owned or operated by individuals who are traditionally underrepresented in biomedical sciences, such as women-owned small businesses, socially/economically disadvantaged small businesses, and companies located within Historically Under-utilized Business (HUB) Zones.
The NIAID AAP is hosting an office hour session on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, 2:00 p.m. ET. During the office hour, NIAID Small Business Program staff and representatives from AAP supporting contractor company Foresight Science & Technology will be available to answer any questions applicants might have regarding the AAP including eligibility criteria, application process, available resources, how to work effectively with AAP consultants. Attend this office hour if you have any NIAID AAP related questions.
NIH SEED is accepting requests from Small Business awardees for registration support for 2025 investor and partnering events. Matched companies will receive 1 paid registration (for the CEO or BD lead) and the opportunity to pitch to investors and/or strategic partners.
To be considered for these events, complete a request form here by Friday, January 17, 2025, 5:00 p.m. ET. Not all companies who request consideration will be matched to events and not all requests for specific events will be granted.
NIH continues efforts to diversify the scientific workforce through PA-24-255 - Administrative Supplements Promote Diversity in Research and Development Small Businesses. SBIR/STTR awardees can use this funding to support students, postdocs, and eligible investigators from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related research.
Small businesses should review the program announcement and reach out to their program officer before applying as some Institutes and Centers may have specific guidelines.
