Pre-Submission Webinar: 2023 NIA Start-Up Challenge and Accelerator: Fostering Entrepreneurial Diversity

Join The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Office of Strategic Extramural Programs and Office of Special Populations on Thursday, March 16, at 1:30 p.m. ET for a pre-submission webinar and Q&A session focusing on the 2023 NIA Start-Up Challenge and Accelerator Program and the submission process. 

This program aims to stimulate innovation and foster diversity in aging research and development by providing cash prizes and non-cash prizes that will help participants overcome barriers to participating in life science entrepreneurship.

Save the Date: Innovative Approaches to Improve Maternal Health Workshop

Join the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9, from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. ET for a free hybrid event that brings together technology developers, medical device experts, small business innovators, implementation scientists, researchers, and academic, industry, and community-based partners to address technological gaps in reducing maternal mortality and morbidity (MMM).

The goal is to connect the research community with small businesses that are developing new approaches to improve MMM and its associated health disparities. Hosted by the NHLBI and sponsored by the NIH IMPROVE Initiative along with six other NIH institutes and offices, the workshop will be held in the Main Auditorium of the Natcher Conference Center in Building 45 on the NIH campus and will be videocast.

Topics include technology, clinical implications, community engagement, implementation, regulatory considerations, government funding, payors and investors, and more.

SBIR/STTR Commercialization Program Manager (GS-14) Position Now Open

The Small Business Administration's Small Business Innovation Research and Technology Transfer Office in the Office of Investment and Innovation is hiring an SBIR/STTR Commercialization Program Manager to focus on increasing the transition and commercialization of SBIR/STTR-funded activities through both Federal Phase III activities and private sector follow-on investment.

Phase I Awardees - Request Your TABA Needs Assessment Report Today!

Recent Phase I NIH SBIR or STTR awardees (grant, contract, or Fast-Track) may request a free Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) Needs Assessment Report provided by RTI Innovation Advisors that provides an assessment of your project’s progress in four technical and business areas:

• Market Needs/Competitive Advantage
• Intellectual Property/Barriers to Entry
• Business Model Profitability
• Manufacturing, Regulatory, and/or Clinical Plan

The Needs Assessment Report helps companies strategize for their project’s next steps. There is no cost for this report and the time commitment for participation is minimal.

NHLBI Launching Catalyze Preclinical Services Program

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI) Catalyze Program initiatives support product development, including product definition small molecules, biologics, devices, diagnostics and enabling technologies and transformative platforms through five grant funding. Catalyze preclinical services support preclinical development activities from end-stage proof-of-concept, through preclinical development and US regulatory submissions. 

Preclinical services are tailored to the development needs of each product. Applicants can request specific services required to advance their technology to the clinic or regulatory submission. 

Interested applicants must submit an expression of interest (EOI) form online. EOI forms will be reviewed, and selected applicants are invited to submit a full application no later than Friday, March 17.

NOSI: Development of Functional Assay Sites to Evaluate Candidate -Omics Variants Associated with HLBS Disease

NHLBI is issuing a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) to highlight interest in receiving SBIR/STTR grant applications focused on the design and testing of biological assays to validate potential disease targets in heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) disorders. NHLBI is specifically interested in applications that cover the following areas:

• Development and/or application of moderate- or high-throughput functional assays to provide biological validation of candidate human variants associated with HLBS disorders
• Defining causal relationships between genotypes and phenotypes
• Development and validation of functionally informed risk predictions
